Centenary Conference - report

‘In marking the centenary of the Northern Friends Peace Board we wanted to use the inspiration of the past to take us on into the future of peace-making.’ With these words Jenny Hartland welcomed the 85 Friends who had gathered for the day in York Friargate Meeting House to mark the founding of the Board in 1913.

Call for a new approach to our common security

On the day when World Military Spending for 2012* will be announced, thirty nine organisations will come together to promote the Global Day of Action on Military Spending (15 April 2013). These include Pax Christi, Fellowship of Reconciliation, Quaker Peace & Social Witness, Christian Ecology Link, Student Christian Movement, Northern Friends Peace Board , War on Want and Campaign Against Arms Trade.

Sustainable Security

Current concerns

NFPB was set up to ‘advise and encourage Friends in the North, and through them their fellow citizens, in the active promotion of peace in all its height and breadth’. Our members meet during the year in full members’ meetings and we undertake projects in relation to a number of the concerns raised and considered at these meetings.

The Board membership and its meetings are also a points for discussion, reflection and information sharing on a range of other peace concerns. This part of the website is a place for information about some of these.
