As well as our formal members’ meetings that happen four times a year (mostly as hybrid events), Northern Friends Peace Board is arranging a number of additional opportunities for our members and other interested Friends to meeting together for reflection, discussion, connection and learning.
Online meetings
At our most recent online session, for instance, Friends met in small groups to share experiences, challenges and practical ideas for taking action for peace – ‘Peace in Practice’.
Whilst acknowledging, and sometimes struggling with, the scale of problems in the world, Friends spoke of the value of taking action that draws on the skills and opportunities that we do have, locally or with other groups. Others reflected on the need for self-care in sustaining our peace witness, through fostering friendships, music and being ready to explore options and ideas from other perspectives.
The meeting also provided space for Friends to share news and concerns, including around the issue arms industry and military spending, and the impact of militarism on the environment.
Regional events
We are also aiming to run regional events for Friends during the year, in May and in July initially, to explore some of the issues we’re working on in greater depth. We hope that NFPB members and other Friends who can get to the venues will benefit from meeting across Area Meeting boundaries.
More information will be added to this page once details have been firmed up (and to our calendar page); in the meantime, if you would like to be on our mailing list for news of these online and in-person regional events, please send an email with that request.
Board meetings
The next full meeting of Northern Friends Peace Board will take place on 29 June, at Glasgow Meeting House and online. The venue for our following meeting – on 28 September – is still to be confirmed.
