Iran – NFPB letter to Keir Starmer, March 2026

4 March 2026

Dear Keir Starmer,

US and Israel Military Action Against Iran

We are writing with deep concern about the escalating crisis following the military action taken by the United States and Israel against Iran. This seems in clear breach of international law, already with dangerous consequences for the region as a whole.

We welcome the UK government’s rejection of aerial warfare as a means of changing another country’s government. We note also that you have made a distinction between defensive and offensive action being supported by the US use of UK bases. In this situation, however, the distinction is in danger of being meaningless.

In an interconnected world, we cannot afford to support warfare that results in great hurt and insecurity for many. We urge the UK government to use its influence to press for de-escalation as a matter of urgency and to encourage all involved to seek diplomatic means of bringing this outbreak of violence to an end as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Philip Austin, Coordinator
