Discussion

The following discussion questions are offered to readers of our publication ‘Responses to War’ and/or the extended e-book edition – when that becomes available.

With the publication and these resources on our website we aim to stimulate, inform, and inspire. We hope to encourage readers to continue their own exploration of the issues and to find ways in which they can take some action to promote peace.  There are no simple answers in this complex and challenging world, but engaging with questions arising, on our own and with others, can help us in our process of learning and action.

Possible questions for personal reflection or discussion

  • What are the areas of clarity for you? What do you feel less sure about? What challenges have you faced in responding to and reflecting on recent wars?

  • How can we best find ways of taking positive action that are consistent with our convictions whilst taking into account other perspectives?  What does it mean to witness/take action in this moment?

  • How do you reflect on the long term and short term aspects of taking action for peace in the current context?

  • Who or what has helped you in finding a way forward?

  • How do you see the relationship between justice and peace?

  • What might governments do to be a positive force for peace in the world?

  • What might Quakers most effectively do on their own and what with others?

Workshop

We are developing a simple workshop that Quakers and others might use.

Please get in touch if you would like to: – invite NFPB to facilitate this with you or for your group (Quaker Meeting or another group) – or to be alerted to when some written guidance is ready for facilitating the workshop on your own.
