Welcoming the treaty – witnessing for peace

These past few days have seen a flurry of activity, to mark the entry into legal effect of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. NFPB members and Quakers around the country joined with others in creating visual messages of support, both on buildings and through digital media. Other activities have ranged from writing letters to the press to joining bell-ringing. On social media, there was a Twitter Storm on the 22nd January using the hashtag #NukesOutUK, with a number of Quaker individuals and organisations participating

We are pleased to be able to support Quakers in their witness at this challenging time and to join with others across the peace movement. Whilst this is an important point to have reached, there is now plenty of work to do to raise the profile and promote understanding of the treaty, and to support practical action to encourage our government to take it seriously. The open letter which we signed sets out these key points.

We are sharing some images of the last few days below, and encourage our readers to get to know more via our website here.
